Why?

In the past ten years I have been up (240) and down (135) the scale time and again. This time I am on the 'up' side of the scale. I want to loose the weight. I figure the humiliation of putting this on the internet and the friends that I have told of this to hold me accountable just might make this happen. It is going to take a lot of encouragement and support. Not to mention the hard work on my part. Follow my struggle here.

Saturdays Run (or, why I need a Garmin)

The Golden Driller Himself
also the only landmark in expo square that still looks 'right' to me

Saturday we met at Expo Square. I will save you the LENGTHY political rant that I assure you I made on more than one occasion on both the run and in learning of the location for the run (if you really want to know message me and I will spill but his is neither the time or the place).

All told I got in 10 miles. Before you start congratulating me you need to know I was scheduled for 9 miles. I don’t trust this nike+ thing much, at all. So if I do not KNOW for a fact how many miles I am supposed to have gone I don’t trust it, as a result I tend to go a little overboard to compensate. This was no exception. (Read I need a garmin.)

I enjoyed the new location (in spite of the political grumblings in my head). It was fun (!) running in a area with cars and traffic. I was more than a little amused at how many drivers were waving at me as we passed – it gave me quite the kick.

Since I have the couch to 5K group I was unable to do the neighborhood runs with my training group and instead did loops around Expo Square. It was much hillier than I anticipated and being on the main thoroughfare was a bit intimidating and then was simply entertainment – I actually hardly noticed the distance.

One of our runners and her church were kind enough to provide watermelon (w00t) for our after run snack. However they had no knife to cut it with. Luckily I always carry my pocket knife on my runs (and yes it has a 3 inch blade) and it worked well on the watermelon. It pays to be prepared! Although I think once again my knife has spooked a few runners.

All in all it was a really fun run and I am looking forward to my short run this Saturday of only 6 miles (who would have thought I would ever call 6 miles short?!).
